July 10 06 Idaho’s Rte 12

We left MT and are heading to a singles gathering near Lewiston. The most direct way is on rte 12 and it is a most beautiful drive. On the east end is Lolo Pass, a steep mountain pass. At the top is a visitor’s center we stopped at as it has historical displays and a video on Lewis and Clark’s passage 200 years ago. When you get to the bottom it follows a river. Both the road and the river wind a lot. About 30 minutes down the road we pulled off the highway and hiked a mile back thru the forest to hot springs. After a couple of hours there we continued on down the road and pulled in for the night at a national forest campground. We were backed up to the river but could only hear it. We had a nice campfire, shower and a great long nights sleep.

Tuesday we went a little further down the road about 50 miles to Kamiah were we stayed with some WIN friends who have 2 lots at the Lewis and Clark resort. Don and Jeanne took us on a long drive up on the Camas Prairie and along the river after a delightful lunch on their patio. They took us to their geocashe, we cheated as they took us there. It is hot tho. In the high 90’s outside and 100 inside. No air conditioning as we are boon docking.

Wednesday Bob got the internet up and running and I caught up on the laundry. We all then packed a lunch and drove up the Selway river to the falls. Not really a falls but a large rapid. There we sat on a rock and had our picnic. It was a beautiful drive with the river always in sight.

Thursday we moved to the Singles Gathering about 15 miles from Lewiston ID. We will be here a week so I am ending this travelog and will start a new one beginning tomorrow with the activities they have planned. I will say we had a nice afternoon visiting with the new and the old friends. Curt Pyeatt is here and those of you who followed Donna’s travels to Alaska last year may remember they crossed the border together as a WIN caravan of 2 and then joined the SI group for the adventure.
