Myrtle Beach

We got a late start, almost noon, but we accomplished a lot. Drove north along the coast looking at all the tourist trap gift shops and high rise motels, hotels and timeshares. Turned around at North Myrtle Beach and drove the bypass south to Huntington Beach State park where I had stayed a couple of times before with my husband. We toured Atalaya.

The home of Anna Hyatt and Archer Huntington, sculptress and philanthropist, respectively, who left the park and adjacent Brookgreen Gardens as their legacy. It was last occupied in 1947. We then stopped at a creek side restaurant for a delicious seafood dinner. Stopped at Costco and Walmart for a few things before heading home. Went to the lodge and visited with some people who were former Ohioans. Our kids must be lonely as we think they are the only ones left in Ohio.

Wednesday morning we got an early start and went back down the coast and toured Brookgreen Gardens. We browsed around the magnificent gardens for a couple of hours looking at all the sculptures.

Back at the motorhome we packed up and drove the 53 miles to Chadbourn, NC where we have been invited to crew for our Strawberry balloon for their strawberry festival. When we arrived we called Andy and he came right away and directed us where to park on the festival grounds.

Bob proceeded to help them build a bridge across a big ditch
while I worked hard watching some guys wash our car. It is now black instead of tan from the dust we have kicked up.
