It got HOT...So we moved

After seeing the temp creep up to 99 we decided to turn the key, turn on the AC as we drove and moved to Cortez, CO where the temp was 15 degrees cooler. Along the way we saw another arch. We parked at the Elk's Lodge for our third visit. We were here last year at the same time. We went into the Lodge and met some nice folks, Dan & Marie. Invited them to see our home and they invited us to "Happy Hour" at their home on Friday.

On Thursday we went to the small town of Rico to check out the hot springs. Yuck.

But the drive was beautiful with "more red rocks"
and yellow aspens.
We geocached along the way. Had an enjoyable midday meal and cached more around Cortez when we got home.

Friday we went in search of a campground that Bob had stayed in way back in 1972 when he and his family came west for a 6 week vacation. He has been going to all the lakes in the area for the past 5 years whenever we come thru. Along the way a traffic jam of sheep.

EUREKA! Found it at last (he thinks). It is Lemon Reservoir. The stream his boys played in.
Their campsite.
And the view from their clamcamper.
Checked out Vallecito Reservoir.
Saw this neat cloud formation.

Headed back to Durango for lunch. Our waitress pumped us on our lifestyle. She and her husband and small kids may just try it. Good luck Kyle. Found a few more caches on our way back to Cortez.

In the evening we went to Marie and Dan's.
They even have their own "Cantina".

I hope you get a chance to visit my friend Bill, the owner of Builders Depot, a wacky re-use store in Cortez.
