We are still heading south and arrived in CA. At Weed there is a public lake with free camping. Our WIN group stayed here in June for a week or so. There were only 4 other campsites occupied while we were there. We parked down nearer the lake than them.
Across the lake there was this beautiful house on the hill. It's so large we thought it was a hotel.
And no lights on so they don't even stay there.

We drove to Mt. Shasta and took the 12 mile road to the 8000 ft level. 
We spent some time there 
enjoying the 82 degree temps instead of the 97 down at the bottom. We found geocaches while up there also.
