Salida, CO

As we were driving to Salida we saw these interesting formations and knew we would have to go back.
We got settled into our campsite a couple of miles east on Rt 50. It's BLM land and at the beginning of the Big Horn Canyon. And best of all it's free.

That night as we were sitting outside we saw movement on the canyon wall and sure enough there were the big horn sheep. 14 of them in 2 different groups.

A couple of days later we took that drive up to the Castle Rocks on dirt roads and geocached along the way. The 14er's  were across the valley.

At this altitude we went thru lots of aspen.

The castles reflected in the pond.

We stopped for lunch a met Tony & Linda from Canyon City. They have invited us to stay at their home if we are back that way.

We took a detour to St. Elmo's historic mining town.
Another pretty lake in the mountains.

We drove down the main street of Salida and saw lots of wild animals.
